Sunshine Blogger Nomination!

Squeee! I’m so excited and honored to have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I was nominated by Sharon Rowley at The Secret Life of Homeschoolers. Sharon is one of several homeschooling moms that I follow; she also worked as an educator prior to homeschooling her own children. I love the idea of homeschooling and hope that someday I have the opportunity to do so. However, even if I’m unable to take on that challenge when that time arrives, homeschoolers have so many great ideas for educational projects and tips for working with children; they’re a great resource and I absolutely recommend parents follow one (or several, starting with Sharon’s, of course).

Thank you, Sharon, for your nomination and the motivation to keep on blogging away!

The rules for the Sunshine Award nomination are as follows:

1) Thank the blogger(s) that nominated you and link their blogs.
2) Answer the 11 questions that blogger asked you.
3) Nominate 11 other bloggers you think deserve this award and write them 11 new questions.
4) Display the Sunshine Blogger Award photo in your blog post.

Here are the questions I was asked and my responses:

1) What is something you want people to know about you?

For some reason, this is a crazy difficult question! I guess that I would have to go with my love of our local history museum; I recently wrote a post about it. I’ve been involved with ours for about ten years and really feel like they’re seriously underappreciated in this day in age. Between playgroups, children’s museums, sports, video games, and the countless other things that keep our children occupied, I don’t feel like we pay them enough heed. So if you haven’t been to your local history museum in a few years, please, please pay them a visit!

2) If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Depends on the purpose of the trip. Exploring? Cambodia. Relaxing? Hawaii. Unexpected? On a cattle drive across Australia (don’t ask me why; I’ve never really had any urge to go to Australia otherwise). But really, I’d love to do a volunteer vacation — maybe Morocco.

3) What are you most proud of?

More of a who, but my daughter! She’s amazing. Sweet, smart, funny, clever. I’m so lucky to be the one she calls Mama.

4) What is something you couldn’t do without as a parent?

Again, a someone, but my spouse. Bravo to all the single parents out there! And thanks, Ryan, for all that you do. I love you.

5) What do you do to relax?

I love being crafty and look forward to the day when I have the time to make another braided wool rug. My guess is that that’ll be around the time my daughter’s old enough to learn how to braid and I’ll teach her how to make them, too.

6) What is your favorite thing to do with your kid(s)?

I love being outdoors with her — in our backyard, at the park, seasonal fruit picking — her face just lights up in the fresh air and it warms my heart.

7) What is your favorite book?

I always feel so guilty saying this, but I’m not much of a reader and I can’t really say that I have a favorite. I’m more of an informational reader than an enjoyment reader. The last book I I read for enjoyment was Little Bee by Chris Cleave. I currently have The Opposite of Spoiled by Ron Lieber on my nightstand and How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen by Joanna Faber and Julie King in my audio library.

8) What do you love about blogging?

I love that I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing, even when I struggle with the tech side of things. I’ve also really come to love the community. When I started, I didn’t understand how much of blogging was about community, but I’ve really enjoyed becoming part of the community and look forward to continuing to develop relationships in the future.

9) What is your favorite comfort food?

Homestyle mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy.

10) What is your favorite season?

Autumn! Cool weather, sweatshirts, warm beverages, pumpkins. Ahhh….

11) Where would you like to bring your kids?

I’m hoping that when they’re older, we can take a family road trip to the elephant sanctuary in Tennessee. (I just refer to my daughter above, but we’re currently expecting #2, hence the plural.)

Here are the eleven folks I’d like to nominate and my questions for them:

1)What color did you paint your favorite room in your home (or would you if you rent and can’t paint)?
2)What is your favorite childhood memory attached to food?
3) What was your dream job as a child?
4) What movie spoke most to you in your formative years?
5)What is the last piece of art that you purchased and how did it speak to you?6) What’s your favorite breakfast food?

10) How long have you been blogging?
