We all have a list of movies that we keep on our reel for binging alone while cleaning the house or for when we need a good laugh (or cry). I’m sure I’m telling my age by the titles on this list — especially by the mid-90s Meg Ryan montage — but none-the-less, these are my go-tos.
I couldn’t possibly put these in order from most to least favorite, so I’ve put them in chronological order.

- Dirty Dancing(1987)
We’ve all had a crush on the bad boy, longed to be part of a social group we didn’t think would accept us, and battled with ourselves over being who we’re meant to be and being someone eveyone else thinks we should be. Baby’s story is so relatable, the soundtrack is awesome, and let’s not forget the dancing….
2. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
I didn’t see this movie until college when my mom bought it for me for the winter holiday one year. Her words? I needed to see the orgasm scene. Needless to say, I was confused and a little mortified. Then I saw it and completely understood. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are brilliant together and those funny old couples intermittently telling stories? Adorable and charming.
3. Legends of the Fall (1994)
I don’t know if this is technically a chick flick, but I’m pretty sure that anything with the guy who was voted “Sexiest Man Alive” twice at least qualifies.
This movie has gorgeous scenery, a gorgeous music score, and a gorgeous cast. Oh, and the story’s pretty good, too.
4. French Kiss (1995)
Perhaps it’s because I grew up with French periodically being spoken in our home, because I love Meg Ryan movies, or because every little girl wants to grow up and move to a foreign country only to live a beautiful, full life with the love of our lives at a vineyard. In all honesty, if I had to pick a favorite from this list, this would be it.
5. You’ve Got Mail (1998)
I completely fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it when Tom Hanks told Meg Ryan that he wanted to send her a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. Can you smell them? ‘Cause I can and I. Am. In. Love.
6. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)
I mean, really. Again, with the vineyard, the soul searching, the beautiful, historical European landscape and a happily ever after. What’s not to love?
7. Hitch (2005)
This movie is just fun. The matchmaker has hiccups at every corner when trying to make his own match for a delightfully predictable journey. Not to mention that Will Smith and Eva Mendes are just two good lookin’ folks that look good together, so what’s not to like?
8. A Lot Like Love (2005)
The friends who keep coming back to each other and it just never works out… until it does. The characters and their friends, families, and lives’ speedbumps are all totally relatable. Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet are adorable together in this film.
9. Wine Country (2019, Netflix)
With a cast of former SNL mavens, you know that this is going to be good for a laugh or two, but it also pretty well captivates the evolution of girlfriendhood. When these friends who were former pizza joint staff get together to celebrate one their 40th birthdays, it’s a collision of life decisions and sisterhood.
10. Otherhood (2019, Netflix)
This movie is like Desperate Housewives meets Grace & Frankie. There’s drama and secrets and drinking and, of course, girlfriends.
Well, that my top 10. What would be on yours? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

This list couldn’t absolutely come at a better time for keeping me company during Christmas knitting. I’ve already taken one suggestion and watched You’ve Got Mail while working on a pair of socks!!
