You’re throwing a period party and kiddo wants a piñata — a uterus piñata, of course! (What else would it be?) Period parties are becoming all the rage and uterus piñatas are a hot commodity. But what do you fill a uterus piñata with? No one wants to go home with nothing but a handful of tampons, but a bunch of candy doesn’t seem right either. Here are 13 creative, guest-pleasing ways to fill uterus piñata.

Chocolate
Chocolate is a natural choice to help celebrate menstruation. Dark chocolate contains magnesium, which helps relieve period cramps, so consider it medicinal, as well.
By buying fair trade, rainforest alliance certified chocolate, you show the next generation that you care. I love these rainbow colored packs by Tony’s, but if Hershey’s is what you have on hand, that’ll do too.
Midol
Travel packs of Midol are great for this occasion! They’re individually wrapped in a foil in festive colors.
(Mom note: Midol contains caffeine and the caffeine-free variety doesn’t appear to be sold in travel packs.)
Disposable tampons/pads
Quick note: If you’re making your own piñata and fill before finishing, use plastic-wrapped products to prevent any premature moisture absorption and related issues.
Earrings
Earrings are a great way to fill a piñata. Blood drops, uteruses, rainbows. Etsy is full of fun, period-related jewelry.
Don’t have the budget to buy outright? Make your own! Some inexpensive clay and one of these cute cutters will go a long way.
If you’ve never made earring before, don’t worry! It’s super easy. Just glue your clay creations to nickel-free earring backs with E6000.
If you’re putting them in your piñata, keep them wrapped in paper secured in a box, so they aren’t broken in the smashing process.
Period trackers (or period tracker making kits)
Period trackers can be a great way to help people monitor their cycles. Etsy has some truly beautiful trackers and tracking bracelets, but they can also be made simply at home and hung in a bathroom for convenience.
Put together inexpensive kits with string, beads, and a charm to move along. Include a non-damaging, adhesive wall hook for them to hang on the bathroom wall or on their nightstand.
A typical 28 day cycle would be represented with 4 colors with this pattern:
- 7 – cycle
- 4 – few hormonal changes
- 5 – ovulation
- 9 – few hormonal changes
- 3 – PMS
Flower seeds
It’s a simple connection between the womb and the planet. A uterus piñata filled with seeds would make a lovely housewarming gift for a new homeowner looking to start a bed of wildflowers. Use packets for a more controlled bed or use loose seeds for a field of wildflowers. Smash that piñata to smithereens and watch its bounty grow and flourish for years to come!
If you opt for loose seed, just make sure that the plants are to the homeowner’s liking and non-invasive. If you’re unsure, select packets.
Bird seed
If you’re looking for a housewarming gift for a feminist who enjoys birds, but who wants and needs nothing. This gift is sure to be a smashing good time in their new yard.
Affirmations
We all could use a little reminder to love ourselves. Folded paper is reminiscent of fun fortune cookies and an inexpensive addition to a piñata.
Reusable pads
Again, an expensive item if you buy outright, but if you can DIY? I’ve been using these as pantiliners (along with a menstrual cup) for 8 years. They’re simple to make with scrap fabric or can be made super cute with fabric purchased for the occasion.
Single use discs/cups
When you’re first learning about your period, it’s great to have options. Cups and discs are a super responsible option – both financially and environmentally – but trying them all is cost prohibitive. Being the parent that provides those opportunities for your kiddo and their friends is super rad. They’re a bit costly, but consider them a worthwhile investment!
Smudge sticks and incense
I have a friend who runs wild women retreats and they are a hoot! Witchy, wild women love the cleansing aspect of smoke, so these make a great addition.
Quick note: Like the jewelry, make sure your items are packaged to buffer against any blows, or you’ll end up with some seriously scented dust instead of gifts.
Wrap smudge sticks and incense cones in paper to keep it all together. Also, make sure not to include any food items with these… ‘cause… ew.
Bandanas or scarves
Who doesn’t love a cool bandana? They’re so functional: hair, sweat, tissue, towel, dancing. My fave five are on constant rotation. Buy a variety of colors or a favorite pattern to celebrate the occasion. (Rainbow, anyone?)
Stickers
Young people love stickers! Whether they’re for their water bottle or planner, period or pride stickers are sure to be a hit!
I hope this list sparks your imagination! Filling a uterus piñata with relevant, guest-pleasing items doesn’t have to be an expensive venture. Read your audience, use what you have, and, if you want, get your DIY vibe on! I’m certain your party will be one to remember!
Cheers!
